Agile Software Development techniques (XP, Scrum, etc) are the newest rage in Software Development Project Management. But don't believe the hype. These "new" techniques, however, have been used in large software systems for quite a while.

In "Iterative and Incremental Development: A Brief History", Craig Larman recounts how Iterative, Incremental Development (IID) have been used from projects like the Space Shuttle programme to DoD Air Defense Systems. His excellent paper is here.
