Cool New Sites
I've come across some sites lately that go on my radar as the next big thing. These are new and unexpected ways of presenting applications or information. They tend to interface with devices, location information and the real world. Tim O'Reilly gives a good talk about this kind of disruptive technology shift in his Web 2.0 series (see: "Tim O'Reilly - The O'Reilly Radar"). Everyone knows about Flickr and Del.icio.us. But what about these cool new sites:
Reddit. Is it better than Digg? Well you judge this user-supplied news site.
Gutenberg. Free e-books where the copywrite has expired. Lawrence Lessig actually gives a good talk about free culture (mainly on copywrite) at the 2002 OSCON.
Instructables.com. On-line Hardware hacking anyone?
These next 2 are Google Maps hacks...
Housing Maps. This is essentially Google Maps + Craigslist.
On NY Turf. A combination of Google Maps and the NYC subway system. This makes it so much easier to find and reach a location via public transit. There are maps for the London and Berlin subways as well.
