Google keeps doing it again... in the consumer space
Google is focused mostly on the consumer world where they just seem to keep hitting 'em out of the ballpark. They've come out with some new features that's going to increase their relevance in the blogosphere, and mapping space. However, I and a new colleague were talking with some senior tech people at a major New York investment bank recently and they have a need for enterprise wide searching of their documents and source code (more on that later). Google, it turns out, does not do a very good job of searching resources in enterprise environments.
Add Google Maps to Websites With New Embed Feature. It does seem like an obvious idea and you wonder why Yahoos Maps or any of the other players didn't do it sooner.
Google's new astronomy search tool: "Sky". Lets users to view the skies as seen from Earth.
Google Maps "Street View", show pictures of city streets for the location which you are searching. It's only for a few areas in some select cities, but the areas are growing fast. I remember a friend talking about doing an interactive street photography years ago and I just thought "Man, that would take too much data and how would you serve it up to people? How would you interact with it?". Well Google's solved that problem.
