Manufacturing To Scale

I read a great article by Tim O'Reilly where he describes the next revolution in manufacturing - you. You have to buy or subscribe to read the article, but what he's basically describing are individuals that create their own designs and have a workshop or mini factory create and deliver you prototype(s) within days.

And if you can't find a workshop to create your custom design, Jim Menlo has founded TechShop, a chain of workshops that cater to inventors, tinkerers and hobbyists. Inc. magazine has an interesting write-up on them. This is great, and I can't wait to see these ideas flourish.
